LYFORD ROAD, SW18

This was an L shaped garden just by Wandsworth Common whereby the client’s brief was to create a beautiful sweeping garden, heavily planted with lots of colourful summer perennials along with a fully equipped playground for the children.

The garden was divided into 2 sections using a stunning walkthrough/pergola created by the planting of 4 table top Malus Everest trees.

This offered a subtle divide between garden and playground extending the former, which unknowingly reaches into the three dimensional space of the play area but without compromising its floor area.

Generous circular curves sweep down both sides of the garden where the geometry is emphasized with a circular area edged in brick detail for the siting of the feature swing and the circular oversized entrance to the children’s den. Sphere shaped evergreen shrubs link with the shape of the scheme.

The playground, clad with western red cedar slatted toppers to tie in with the main garden for a cohesive scheme, is covered with climbers of scented jasmine and clematis.  Artificial grass extends in to this area but merges and combines with rubber flooring with shock pad underlay for the high level play apparatus.  Three holm oak trees stand within circular planting holes.

The terrace was dressed with clear stem trees in impressive stone planters and the subtle interface between the three distinctive zones to this garden showcased an incredible sense of space.

TESTIMONIAL

“Tris provided a hands-on, design-led consultancy service in order to transform our London garden. Over about a 3-month period, she redefined the use and flow of our outdoor space.

The aim was to connect two areas of the garden, so that they flowed seamlessly between each other. The brief was very much focussed on smooth, curved lines and the subtle blending of these areas. By utilising this new piece of land and using the existing flower boarders as a natural pathway, Tris created an aesthetically pleasing, interactive children’s play area.

It is now a much more inviting place for the children to spend time, with a ‘secret garden’ feel to it, alongside an area of quiet sanctuary. Before the transformation, it was hard to convince them to play outside but now they love playing in the garden and enjoy the stepping stones, climbing frame and cubby-hole den! The AstroTurf has worked well too as it has encouraged us to use the garden in all seasons.

Thanks to Tris’s creative outlook and hard work, we now have a space which caters to the whole family. Tris oversaw the entire project from start to finish, including drawing up all of the designs and plans, sourcing the contractors and working closely alongside the suppliers to bring our vision to life.”
